A Precious Perspective

I am afraid. Afraid I will go home and forget what it is like for so many here in the poor countries of the world. Living in Africa for the past 11 out of 13 months has given me a precious perspective. I hope I never forget. I hope I never get too comfortable in my life back home to forget what so many people in the world have to struggle and go through just to survive each day. Coming home I had a hard time adjusting back. Life seemed a little purposeless. I got to be so intimately involved in so many people’s lives on board the Africa Mercy. I got to hear their stories and witness a pivotal point of change in their life. I got to see hope and joy radiating from each patient as they received healing.   Although there is much purpose to what we do back home in the hospital, I felt replaceable there. The environment is also very task orientated, that it is hard to build any type of relationship. It was also hard to see how so many felt they had a right to their health. That docto
